Although Prof. Grandison is outgoing and enthusiastic, his poor organization of the course really ruined it for me. He communicates very rigid course goals and expectations in the syllabus, but then does not stick to the schedule at all throughout the semester. He is not very good at leading an organized discussion, so sometimes good points get lost and bad ones get too much of the focus of the class. In evaluating the many group projects, he tends to emphasize presentation and formatting details over substance. He also has a knack for scheduling mandatory field trips outside of class time.
Such mixed feelings about this class and professor. Cons: he definitely doesn't stick to the syllabus, he seems to pick favorite students, he schedules field trips outside of class time, and he almost never goes over the details of assignments that students are required to turn in. The most important con of this list, however, is that the course is an English course in name only. He focuses a lot on topography and other forms of graphic analysis rather than literature.
Pros: It wasn't a ton of work, you could get away with not doing the readings, and the midterm was the only in-class exam of the entire semester.
