I love his lectures, but he's not the nicest in the department. I felt that he answers questions thoughtfully when he feels like it. He's the stereotypical grumpy old man at times, but I did grow to like him as the semester passed. My interests did not lie in the realm of Asian at all prior to taking this class, but Professor Ehnbom really grew my interest in Asian art. Overall, good professor, definitely.
He is definitely snarky like the other reviews said, but the material is very interesting if you like art history. I would fall asleep in the class because he would sometime go off tangents just to use up time or review stuff for half of the class, but the reviews are important to know because he reviews the important pieces. The only grades are the midterm and final so you have to study/memorize a lot but overall a good class.
Prof. Ehnbom is one of my favourite teachers in the Art History Department. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and I would recommend it to anyone (with or without and art history background). His lectures are incredibly engaging and he recaps the information from the previous class at the beginning of every lecture. One of the classes I've learnt the most from at UVA!
