This class is pretty interesting and easy, the only downside was how early the class is. There is only a final and a midterm, and most of the exams is art pieces and artifacts we looked at in class. If you read the powerpoint notes before the exam you should be fine. There is also lots of extra credit.
This course was absolutely fascinating, and the books provide extra details to the lecture, and are essential to doing well in the exams. I plan on keeping the books to read through thoroughly at some point! The professor was wonderful and obviously cared about making this course manageable for her students, changing deadlines and adding points back for issues discussed in homework, quizzes, and tests. These other reviews focus on one day where people were coming in past the halfway point of the lecture, and she told them that that could be considered an Honor offense, due to them only arriving for the attendance clicker question. This class was not hard if you put in even minimal effort to studying and homework, which was graded on completion. An A- is certainly achievable if you just pay attention to the readings and review lecture slides before the exam. The teacher and TAs were so helpful answering any questions you had and providing the reasoning behind your grades. If you are looking to fill some requirements and can spare a maximum of three hours a week, definitely take this class!
Class is extremely dry and professor cannot effectively engage the class. Discussion section to the class does not contribute to the curriculum. Reading the textbook is a waste of time because professor posts powerpoints which pair with the quizzes and tests. Pro to the class is that all quizzes and tests were take home
Made super unreasonable tests and quizzes that had little to do with content learned in lecture and discussion. Instead of asking questions pertaining to the big concepts we learned in class, she asks for very minute details hidden in the powerpoints that were barely or not even mentioned in class. This was unreasonably hard for an intro art history class!!!
Professor was not very helpful, not very friendly, and not very nice at all. Tests were hard just because she was looking for such specific details in your essays, and if you didn't get those exactly details, you got 0 credit for that part. If you are looking for an easy class to fulfill a requirement, do not take this class
Honestly just not a very nice person. She was very passive aggressive and yelled/called students out when they walked in and out of the lecture hall of 150 kids (which doesn't bother anybody but her). She's very passionate about the subject and emphasizes the importance of her class. But she is stubborn and just not very helpful as a professor. Instead of explaining why an answer you put is wrong she just tells you to own up to your mistake and stop asking questions. If you don't care about having fun/enjoyable professors, go for it because the class is interesting if you are into history of ancient Egypt (honestly not much of the art aspect involved at all) but its a hard course and very nit picky about specifics. Definitely did not enjoy it at all and dreaded lectures/discussion.
