Probably my easiest class all semester. Most of the work comes from reading case studies and then writing a case study analysis (but these are done in class). There's also a group project comprised of 2 presentation and a final paper. Bala is awesome, makes the class fun, and a portion of the grading comes just from attendance and participation. If you just show up, respond, and read you should do just fine !
Case Studies + Group work + Participation
The case studies were pretty easy to receive an A on as long as it was organized well and split up like a memo - you definitely did not have to structure it that way I just felt it was the easiest way especially with a Batten TA. There were about 6-7 opportunities to submit case studies and you only had to do 3 I think. However, you still need to have read the cases before class even if you do not write about one.
Your entire grade will basically be dependent on your group project so pick a good group and make sure you do well on the first presentation. That is where you are grilled the hardest and most of our class got C's on that portion and then improved to A's for the second presentation. I would say this is an easy A- class and you really have to put in a lot of group work to get A. Professor Mulloth is really knowledgeable and is always happy to help so go to his office hours.
This class has interesting content, but could be run in a much better manner. Social entrepreneurship is a very interesting field and Bala has a lot of experience with it, so it was helpful to have access to someone with first hand experience. Weekly response papers were not graded that harshly, but the semester-long project (making up a very large portion of your grade) where you developed your own social venture was graded vaguely without a clear rubric. This isn't a class with a lot of "busy work", but rather is focused on the social venture project throughout.
