Professor Freedman was funny in lecture and engaging for a morning class. You don't need to read for lecture, but be ready for awk pauses in discussion if no one has read and can volunteer information. Memorizing authors is important for the two quizzes, but most of the questions are intuitive and if you paid attention in lecture, you'll be fine. 2 essays aren't too bad, but need to substantiate with evidence from readings, so you can't totally escape from doing work.
Great professor who makes class really fun. You don't have to be interested in politics to take this class, but it does help you engage. 2 papers and an final, plus two mid-semester quizzes. A lot of reading but discussion will help keep you on top of it, and Freedman does a great job of summarizing materials. One of my favorite media studies classes here. #tcf2016
Professor Freedman is great- super engaging and makes class really interesting. If he's still teaching try and get John York as your TA, he's been doing this for forever so he knows which material is important. There's two papers, two quizzes/tests and one in-class final. Word of warning- the papers are graded semi-harshly and the quizzes can be nit-picky about the authors. Luckily it's pretty easy reading and usually each piece isn't very long. Overall, great class and I highly recommend.
