This class definitely challenged me.
1. You HAVE to read everything. AND not just skim, but READ. I didn't find that hard to do, the texts are all relatively short and you have a week to get them all done. The texts themselves are all pretty dark for the most part, but they're all really interesting and she will help you with any part you didn't understand.
2. YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS. The class is literally discussion and papers. Every class you just discuss the texts. If you don't say anything, it's really dull and she doesn't like you. If you talked, like I did, she likes you. You don't always have to say something incredibly deep or insightful, just participate and you'll be fine.
3. YOU HAVE TO WRITE. She is a hard grader. She definitely has a certain way she likes people to write, so my grades really took a hit at the beginning. However I learned, I went to one of er office hours, and I improved my writing and grade. She is not out to get you, she wants you to succeed, but she doesn't just hand out good grades.
Overall I enjoyed this class. I learned a lot about Korean history and world history, along with literature and an enhanced ability to look critically at out past. ALso my writing and discussion skills improved a lot.
ALSO THE PROF SEEMS SCARY BUT IS REALLY NICE. I basically had a meltdown and she was totally understanding and even gave me a hug. Would reallly recommend if you;re willing to put the work in.
